The scope expansion of “viewpoint”, a column of the monthly magazine New Subjects and Practices of Network Technology Times magazine agency, is shaped through feeling out." In view of deficiency of author of original material, our chief designer Zhou Dingzhen(周定珍) suggested to turned our eyes for outstanding students. Then we decided to start with excellent college students. Because their basic developments in all aspects have come to an end, their life-locus are not only credible but convincing, thus they have real value for references.
The understanding about the stories of Ma, a sophomore girl from School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, is owing to a call from Beijing Municipal Institute of Science and Technology Education. The teacher said quite frankly through the phone: "the many theoretical articles of quality education are, in fact, not as good as Ma, a living example of successful quality education, with more research values and practical significance. What’s the Current curriculum reform for? Is it not for improving the quality of students and fostering talents fit for the need of temporal developments? Our aim is not to repeatedly make bookworms who only know reading books and only read the books dead!" Then, in her tips, we searched the name Ma Yuge’s Chinese “马宇歌” on the web and unexpectedly got articles as many as tens of thousands. Just open one of these articles, though it is not directly related to education it is very rich in relevant contents about Ma after indexation and reprinting of Ma. After that I put the matter aside for a period of time. As the sections of new senior curriculum reform in the provinces and autonomous regions have not yet been implemented, I had to look for author and accompany the task as soon as possible during the limited time left.
Once again concerning about Ma’s stories was due to loyalty to “viewpoint” section. As a public-offering and central-leveled special education magazine at home and abroad which directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, it is very easy to invited some education sectors talking about curriculum reform, but it is hard to find a “bystander” outside the education sector talking about curriculum reform with easy and fluency. It can be said that we have been trying to identify the potential "bystander." Painstakingly, I finally connected with Ma's father, Mr. Ma Hongyi. Mr. Ma, officially a famous democrat, professor-level senior economist, has engaged in and concerned about education from 15-year-old and got remarkable achievements though his work has nothing directly to do with education. The most commendable thing is that he, bold in blazing new trails of unique education philosophy with well-applied practice, has trained Ma as a world-recognized quality education model today. Mr. Ma is fully qualified and better be invited to talk about curriculum reform with his outside-of-education viewpoint.
At first I thought that Mr. Ma would not easily agree to be invited. And after a deep talk with him, I felt that I had found the right person and he was pleased to be invited.
As a result there was an article by Mr. Ma The Potential Power of Rising of Great Nations Comes from Education Revolution on Column “Viewpoint” on the No.101 of the total of monthly magazine “The New Curriculum Practice” (a monthly magazine) of Network Technology Times. (Search the Internet with the title of the article, its full text can be found by a variety of search engines) we will introduce his education ideals, his practices and academic evaluation he has got in detail on next phase of our magazine.)
Just as Huang Li, an undergraduate sophomore girl of School of Architecture Tsinghua University, said: “Ma is a 'genius' of the motherland with a legendary experience I should be proud of." According to the direct interviews of teachers, students, education experts who are more familiar with Ma, and in her own words, her excellent performances "(are) more from the acquired habits." During a person's growth process, the endowment of course can lay a good foundation for the development, but it seems more important of education environment and a good personal habits resulting from this.
